Functional and Decorative Glass Art

We make each piece by hand with you in mind.

Muffinjaw Designs is the first publicly accessible glassblowing studio in Mobile, AL. We create functional and decorative glass for home and garden out of our hot shop and provide educational arts outreach for our local community.

Cultivated in the Venetian style with a pinch of Southern funk, our glass pieces are designed with Gulf Coast aesthetics. Bold colors and crisp lines create the ideal accent for your home glass collection.

We specialize in both in-studio and on-site glassblowing demonstrations, Blow Your Own events, and private glassblowing parties. Hit the Demos tab to learn more!

Our Story

Muffinjaw Designs started as a means for us to share our work while studying glassblowing at the University of South Alabama. We began setting up for our local art walk and forming relationships with fellow glass lovers. After we initially threw ourselves out into the world, we discovered that most of our friends and customers had never seen glass being blown in person. At the end of 2016, we purchased a Baby Dragon furnace from Mobile Glassblowing Studios based out of Americus, Georgia. This piece of equipment transformed how we were able to do business and has allowed us to showcase our craft in public.

Once we acquired our Dragon, and while still in school, we began doing live glassblowing demonstrations in Mobile and Baldwin counties. Through these events we are able to engage with people who have never experienced hot glass before and show what it takes to make our work.

After COVID-19 abruptly ended owner Freddie’s two-year apprenticeship in Augusta, Missouri, we were able to expand our old home studio and continue making glass pieces locally. In 2023 our team moved into our first publicly accessible space where we surpassed our wildest dreams of becoming Mobile, Alabama’s only public hot glass studio. The transition from backyard to public studio/gallery has been a wild ride and the future looks bright for the Muffinjaw crew!

We are incredibly passionate about sharing glass with our community and want to be able to teach others about this wonderful medium and help them create their own works of art. Our craft continues to lead us places we never thought possible. It is one of our greatest joys to see the spark that 2000˚ glass creates in the eyes of all ages.
